I have been honored to serve as State Representative for the 14th Norfolk District which includes Wellesley, Weston and South Natick, since January, 2003. Due to the redistricting which occurs every ten years, the 14th Norfolk District will include Wellesley, Weston and Precinct 4 in Wayland in the next legislative session which begins in January, 2013.
During the past nine years, I have worked hard to represent the citizens of this district by focusing my attention on matters that I believe are important to the people who live here. This work has included securing state funding for the new Wellesley and Natick High Schools as well as the Field School in Weston, ending the flawed and unfair practice of raising the tolls on Mass Pike commuters to pay for the “Big Dig”, improving the Community Preservation Act to benefit projects in this district, reforming the state’s employee pension system and saving municipalities millions of dollars through changes to the employee health care system.
This session, as House Chair of the Joint Committee on Education, I have focused on improving public education so that all students in the Commonwealth have access to the excellent education that residents of this district expect and that is critical to our state’s economic future. In these difficult economic times, I have tried to ensure that the state continues to provide for our most vulnerable citizens without placing unreasonable burdens on the taxpayer. While much progress has been made in these areas, much remains to be done and I hope to be able to put my years of experience to use by continuing in this position.
